When reviewing a challenge to a suppression ruling, "we defer to the trial court's factual findings if supported by substantial evidence, [and] exercise our independent judgment to determine whether, on the facts found, the search or seizure was reasonable under the Fourth Amendment." (People v. Gallegos (2002) 96 Cal.App.4th 612, 622.)
