" ' "[A] trial court has wide discretion to admit or exclude expert testimony. . . . An appellate court may not interfere with the exercise of that discretion unless it is clearly abused." ' [Citation.]" (People v. Manriquez (1999) 72 Cal.App.4th 1486, 1492.) The trial court's exercise of its discretion is governed by Evidence Code section 801, which limits expert testimony to that "[r]elated to a subject that is sufficiently beyond common experience that the opinion of an expert would assist the trier of fact."
