What analysis is required for our review of the trial court's rulings on evidentiary objections?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from Miranda v. Bomel Const. Co., Inc., 115 Cal.Rptr.3d 538, 187 Cal.App.4th 1326 (Cal. App. 2010):

"A different analysis is required for our review of the trial court's ... rulings on evidentiary objections. Although it is often said that an appellate court reviews a summary judgment motion 'de novo,' the weight of authority holds that an appellate court reviews a court's final rulings on evidentiary objections by applying an abuse of discretion standard.
