What is the current usage of the term "intellectually disabled" when referring to a witness who has been diagnosed with intellectual disabilities?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Leon, 257 Cal.Rptr.3d 592, 456 P.3d 416, 8 Cal.5th 831 (Cal. 2020):

6 The witness used the terms "mildly retarded" and "mild retardation." In accordance with current law and usage, this court now uses the phrase "intellectually disabled" except when quoting or characterizing a source that uses older terms. (See, e.g., People v. Boyce (2014) 59 Cal.4th 672, 717, fn. 24, 175 Cal.Rptr.3d 481, 330 P.3d 812 (Boyce ); see also Stats. 2012, ch. 448.)
