Is a solicitor required to ensure that the client understood the meaning of an Agreement?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Cope v. Dickson, 2002 BCSC 98 (CanLII):

It is incumbent on the solicitor wishing to uphold the contract to ensure that the client understood the nature of it. (See Finch v. Finch, 2001 BCSC 125 (Registrar).) The solicitor has the onus of proving the interpretation of the Agreement and its reasonableness. (See Kelly v. McMillan et al, supra.)
