How have courts dealt with discrimination against non-Canadian citizens on the grounds of citizenship and place of origin?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from Fitzhenry v. Schemenauer, 2008 AHRC 8 (CanLII):

In the case of Ahmed v. 177061 Canada Ltd.[6], the complainant in this case was a newly arrived immigrant to Canada who sought to secure rental accommodations for himself, his wife and daughter. The respondent in this case was a large corporate entity, which had a long-standing policy in place that required prospective tenants to have good landlord and credit history, and to satisfy minimum income and job tenure criteria. This established criteria was found to discriminate against a significant number of potential tenants based on the grounds of citizenship and place of origin.
