What is the obligation of a parent to contribute to their child's post-secondary education?

Manitoba, Canada

The following excerpt is from W.D.D. v. P.E.S., 2006 MBQB 189 (CanLII):

J.D.P.S. has the obligation to make a contribution to his post-secondary education which is both meaningful and reasonable. Juriansz J.A. stated in Lewi v. Lewi, supra: ¶159 Both s. 3(2)(b) and s. 7 of the Guidelines require that the means of the child must be considered along with the means of the parents. … The court has the discretion under both provisions to decide the amount the child should be expected to contribute. … The extent of the contribution expected depends on the circumstances of the case. There is no standard formula under either s. 7 or s. 3(2)(b).
