The purpose of a non-pecuniary damage award is to compensate the plaintiff for “pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and loss of amenities”: Jackson v. Lai, 2007 BCSC 1023 at para. 134.
In Stapley v. Hejslet, 2006 BCCA 34, leave to appeal ref’d [2006] SCCA No. 100, at para. 46, Madam Justice Kirkpatrick outlined the following factors to be considered in awarding non-pecuniary damages:
