Does the trial court erred by denying a motion to suppress evidence found during a search of a vehicle by law enforcement?

California, United States of America

The following excerpt is from People v. Mendoza, 258 Cal.Rptr.3d 249, 44 Cal.App.5th 1044 (Cal. App. 2020):

Mendoza argues the trial court erred by denying her motion to suppress the evidence found during the search of her vehicle because law enforcement did not have reasonable grounds to stop her in the first place. Since the stop was unlawful, she argues, the trial court should have suppressed the fruits of the search conducted after the stop. ( People v. Loewen (1983) 35 Cal.3d 117, 122-123, 196 Cal.Rptr. 846, 672 P.2d 436 ( Loewen ).) We agree.
