What is the legal test for cost awards in an adoption proceeding?

Alberta, Canada

The following excerpt is from JSA v. GE, 2012 ABQB 58 (CanLII):

I see no basis to distinguish an adoption from any other proceeding that fundamentally affects which adult or adults will direct the life of a child. The same general principles should drive cost awards in a adoption proceedings in the same way as custody (Metz v. Weisgerber) or guardianship (S.B. v. J.F.) disputes.
