Can a party recover additional expert opinions from a third party?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Goodwin v. Ofstie, 2009 BCSC 137 (CanLII):

Rule 68(33) deals with the use of experts. Absent leave of the court, a party may tender only one expert opinion, unless specific rebuttal evidence is required. However, that does not mean that a party is unable to recover the costs associated with retaining additional experts so long as those costs are found to be necessary, proper and reasonable: Raju v. Bui, 2008 BCSC 1230 at para. 16.
