We note at the outset that our scope of review on an award of attorney's fees is circumscribed. An assessment of such an award entails a detailed ad hoc inquiry into the particular case. See Blanchard v. Bergeron, --- U.S. ----, 109 S.Ct. 939, 946, 103 L.Ed.2d 67 (1989) ("It is central to the awarding of attorney's fees ... that the district court judge, in his or her good judgment, make the assessment of what is a reasonable fee under the circumstances of the case.").
