The following excerpt is from People v. McKinnon, 103 Cal.Rptr. 897, 500 P.2d 1097, 7 Cal.3d 899 (Cal. 1972):
The most recent case to address itself to the problems of a vehicular search is Coolidge v. New Hampshire, Supra, 403 U.S. 443, 91 S.Ct. 2022. The majority attempt to distinguish that case from the instant case insofar as it attempts to clarify the rule of the search without a warrant in exigent circumstances, and in the end the majority maintain that because no clear majority supported the opinion of the court in its entirety the opinion is of no significance insofar as the instant case is concerned. I disagree with both points.
