The following excerpt is from Lee v. Sandberg, 136 F.3d 94 (2nd Cir. 1997):

8 Section 46b-38a defines a "[f]amily violence crime," in pertinent part, as "a crime as defined in section 53a-24 which, in addition to its other elements, contains as an element thereof an act of family violence to a family member." Conn. Gen.Stat. Ann. 46b-38a(3) (West 1995). Section 53a-24(a), in pertinent part, defines "crime" as comprised of felonies and misdemeanors that include assault in the third degree which is committed when a person "[w]ith intent to cause physical injury to another person, ... causes such injury to such person." Conn. Gen.Stat. Ann. 53a-61 (West 1994); State v. Palozie, 165 Conn. 288, 294, 334 A.2d 468, 472 (1973) (slap in the face and poke in the nose constitute assaults).
