A jury convicted defendant of the assaults including the special allegation, and the trial court found true the prior convictions. The trial court denied defendant's motion to reduce the counts to misdemeanors under Penal Code section 17, subdivision (b) and to strike the prior convictions in the interest of justice under People v. Superior Court (Romero ) (1996) 13 Cal.4th 497, 53 Cal.Rptr.2d 789, 917 P.2d 628. Defendant was sentenced to concurrent terms of 25 years to life consecutive to 15 years. The prior prison term enhancements were stayed.
