After numerous continuances, and one oral request by defendant to relieve his attorney (People v. Marsden, supra, 2 Cal.3d 118), the matter was called for trial. During in limine proceedings, defendant admitted to being a felon in possession of a handgun in order to exclude evidence of the nature of the prior conviction. On the second day of trial, after voir dire had commenced, defendant pled guilty to all counts of all three cases, admitted all enhancements, and all Three Strike allegations in return for an indicated aggregate sentence of 18 years two months from the court.
