Can a union representative contact management?

Prince Edward Island, Canada

The following excerpt is from Lanigan v. PEITF, 2017 PECA 3 (CanLII):

An example of a union representative contacting management, if one is needed, can be found in Manderschied v. CUPE, Local 389, 2011 BCLRB No. 92. In that case, the union member complained that his duty of fair representation was breached because, amongst other things, the union representative had not been briefed by the employer before the meeting.
