What are the consequences of rejecting a reasonable offer to settle?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Pang v Zhang, 2021 BCSC 1435 (CanLII):

A party who rejects a reasonable offer to settle should usually face some sanction in costs. To do otherwise would undermine the importance of certainty and consequences in applying the Rule: Wafler v. Trinh, 2014 BCCA 95 at para. 81. In the result, it is appropriate to take the Second Offer into consideration with respect to costs. I therefore award the plaintiff double costs on Scale B from September 4, 2020.
