It is a common law characteristic of an office holder at pleasure that he has no right to be heard, and no reason for his dismissal need be given. Traditionally and historically, he holds his office at the pleasure of the Sovereign and the will of the Sovereign is not to be questioned: see Ridge v. Baldwin, [1964] A.C. 40.
