What is the current state of the law requiring parents to assist in the support of their children who attend university?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Hamilton v. Pearce, 2000 BCSC 1432 (CanLII):

The law requires parents in certain circumstances to assist in the support of their children who attend university: Wesemann v. Wesemann (1999), 1999 CanLII 5873 (BC SC), 49 R.F.L. (4th) 435 (B.C.S.C.). The legal process gives parents the chance to tell a judge why they think a parent should or should not provide that assistance before the judge makes the decision.
