What is the effect of solicitors accepting a retainer from defendants in a personal injury proceeding?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Cram v. The Law Society of British Columbia, 2004 BCSC 1497 (CanLII):

The facts here are not similar to the more typical [McDonald Estate v. Martin, 1990 CanLII 32 (SCC), [1990] 3 S.C.R. 1235] alleged form of conflict where the solicitors have brought a conflict to the proceeding in accepting a retainer. Here each defendant has requested existing counsel represent them in this matter, all are content with the representation and have no desire to retain other counsel.
