In argument, the appellants raised the expense of the transcript as a concern. When an appeal is brought from a longer trial, the filing of a complete transcript can be a difficult expense to bear. In fact, as Madam Justice Southin observed in Dhillon v. Dhillon, 2005 BCCA 529 at para. 9, the cost of providing a transcript “…is often so far beyond the means of a litigant to make his or her right of appeal illusory.”
