In Andrews v. Grand & Toy Alberta Ltd., 1978 CanLII 1 (SCC), [1978] 2 S.C.R. 229, 8 A.R. 182, 3 C.C.L.T. 225, 83 D.L.R. (3d) 452, 19 N.R. 50, [1978] 1 W.W.R. 577, Dickson J., as he then was, held that the projected cost of necessities of life should be included in the calculation of future care costs, but a deduction should be made from the award of future earnings for the percentage of earnings attributable to the necessities of a person in a normal state.
