There is no statutory framework setting out how to calculate income for spousal support purposes. A determination of the parties’ “means” is typically the basis for setting an income. If the court concludes that one or both of the parties’ stated income does not represent their “means” or ability to earn income, the court can impute or attribute income at a level that reflects their means: Holland v. Novotony, 2009 BCSC 1754 at para. 150.
