There are a number of authorities which hold that awarding security for costs may be in children’s best interests in some custody cases. Security for costs may stop an unmeritorious claim for custody “in its tracks”: Stefureak v. Chambers, 2005 CanLII 7890 at paragraph 18. Security for costs may provide children with “a break from the family siege mentality and perpetual stoking of conflict which accompanies endless litigation”: Izyuk v. Bilousov, 2015 ONSC 3684 at paragraph 42.
