A tip from an informant may be sufficient to sustain the issuance of a search warrant in certain circumstances: R v. Debot, 1989 CanLII 13 (SCC), [1989] 2 S.C.R. 1140. Three questions must be addressed: i. Was the information provided by the source, predicting the commission of a criminal offence, compelling? ii. Where the source is not a police officer, was the source credible? iii. Was the information corroborated by a police investigation prior to making the decision to conduct the search?
