Regina v. Maroney dealt with the merit of a conviction for possession of stolen property … "knowing it to have been obtained by an [indictable offence]." Maroney was found in possession of certain goods which had composed part of the stock-in-trade of a partnership. The partnership was facing bankruptcy. The goods were heavily encumbered by conditional sales agreements which left little, if any, ownership in the partnership. They were removed from the partnership premises, with the complicity of one of the partners, by night and under the diversion of a feigned break-in.
