Accepting that more time might have been spent hearing testimony and in the written judgment on the issues involving the children, I agree with Madam Justice Humphries’ comments from Hansen v. Mantei-Hansen, 2013 BCSC 1854 at paras. 12 to 16. She points out that parents bear their own costs in a custody battle usually based on the court's assessment of the positions taken rather than a party's genuine belief. In that regard, I note that the respondent's position at trial was reasonable in that he accepted he was not in a position to exercise 50% parenting time because of his living circumstances and his work schedule.
