Is a spouse entitled to a higher standard of living than they did during their marriage?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from A.C.C. v. S.L.C., 2003 BCSC 1912 (CanLII):

The fact that a spouse cannot maintain the same standard of living by his or her own means after a marriage as he or she enjoyed during the marriage is not in itself a basis for non-compensatory support. Spouses are entitled to a standard of living that is "reasonable in light of their reasonable expectations during marriage": Nelson v. Nelson, 2001 BCCA 682.
