[24] MacDonald Estate v. Martin, supra, addressed the appropriate standard to be applied in determining whether a conflict of interest existed regarding representation by a party against a former client. In the majority determination, the court stated that maintaining the fundamental professional standards was essential in order to preserve the respect of the public for the profession.[20]
