[25] The period of imprisonment and the period of the long-term supervision order are separate aspects of sentence. Each serves a different purpose. The principle objective of a prison sentence is punishment in accordance with the sentencing principles set out in the Criminal Code. The two objectives of an LTSO are to ensure that the public is protected during supervised reintegration into society and to ensure that rehabilitation and reintegration is successful. R. v.
