How is corroborating evidence treated in a sexual assault case?

Ontario, Canada

The following excerpt is from R. v. Beauchamp, 2009 CanLII 9476 (ON SC):

Based on the Khelawon decision, the court is permitted to look at corroborating evidence to determine whether or not the statement is reliable. In the Khelawon decision, the court adopted the reasoning of Kennedy J. in Idaho v. Wright, 497 U.S. 805 (1990) who stated “The short of the matter is that both the circumstances existing at the time the child makes the statements and the existence of corroborating evidence indicate, to a greater or lesser degree, whether the statements are reliable.”
