1 The written waiver in Thomas , upheld today, similarly advised defendant that the right to appealwhich he expressly waivedis accompanied by various related rights: the right "to prosecute the appeal as a poor person, to have an attorney assigned in the event that the defendant is indigent, and to submit a brief and argue before the appellate court on any issue relating to the conviction or sentence" (see appendix for defendant-appellant in People v.
