Cal.4th 651, 655; People v. McGahuey (1981) 121 Cal.App.3d 524, 531.) Generally, "[a] sentence resulting in imprisonment in the state prison pursuant to [Penal Code] Section 1168 or 1170 shall include a period of parole supervision . . . ." (Pen. Code, 3000, subd. (a)(1).) Inmates serving indeterminate sentences with a maximum term of life imprisonment for first or second degree murder are subject to lifetime parole periods, although they can be discharged from parole earlier under certain circumstances.
