time [the deputy sheriff] spoke with [the victim] in the hospital, the incident that caused [the victim]'s injury had been over for more than an hour. The alleged assailant and the alleged victim were geographically separated, [the victim] had left the scene of the injury, and ... was in no danger of further violence as to which contemporaneous police intervention might be required.
