The following excerpt is from People v. Videl, D073238 (Cal. App. 2018):
provides for the longest potential term of imprisonment, but in no case shall the act or omission be punished under more than one provision." If a defendant receives two convictions and section 654 precludes punishment for one, the sentences are imposed for both, then stayed for the shorter sentence. (People v.
