The following excerpt is from Filippo Industries, Inc. v. Sun Ins. Co. of New York, 74 Cal.App.4th 1429, 88 Cal.Rptr.2d 881 (Cal. App. 1999):
In Gruenberg v. Aetna Ins. Co. (1973) 9 Cal.3d 566, 108 Cal.Rptr. 480, 510 P.2d 1032, the plaintiff, following denial of coverage, sued the three insurance companies with whom he had policies, the corporation which had been employed to investigate and adjust the claim, the individual adjuster, the attorneys for the insurance companies, and an individual attorney of that firm. The plaintiff's one cause of action was for the breach of the duty of good faith and fair dealing implied in the insurance contract.
