As applied to the instant case, the trial court correctly found that the entirety of defendant's statements and actions toward Salas-at the reception desk, through the window, and as he was being arrested-fell within the first aspect of the continuous course of conduct exception, because the incidents were so closely connected that they formed part of a single transaction.
