That said, the nature of the relationship and confidence in the identity of the person on the other end of the electronic conversation is not determinative. A reasonable expectation of privacy is not limited to a relationship based on a high level of trust or confidence that one has in the recipient: R v. Cole, 2012 SCC 53; R v. Quesnelle, 2014 SCC 46.
