In People v. Lopez (2004) 119 Cal.App.4th 132, the court held that section 654 precluded multiple punishment for possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition by a felon. In that case, the only ammunition that the defendant possessed was inside the loaded firearm. The Lopez court determined that "[t]o allow multiple punishment for possessing ammunition in a firearm would, in our judgment, parse the objectives too finely." (Id. at p. 138.)
