Is a mortgagee required to disclose the amount paid to a property management company?

Nova Scotia, Canada

The following excerpt is from Scotia Mortgage Corporation v. Fogarty, 2016 NSSC 52 (CanLII):

This disclosure is required in order to ascertain whether the amounts being claimed by the mortgagee are reasonable. Financial institutions often hire property management companies to manage and maintain properties that are being foreclosed. In this case, the property management company hired independent contractors to perform work at the property in question. One can anticipate that the property management company would charge an administration fee or markup on the invoices that they receive. Unless the original invoices are disclosed, the court is unable to determine how much this markup is or whether it is reasonable (see CIBC v. Samson-Hahn, 2015 NSSC 149).
