What is the test for credibility and reliability in evidence?

British Columbia, Canada

The following excerpt is from C.M.G. v R.M.G, 2021 BCSC 1661 (CanLII):

It is important to distinguish between credibility and reliability. Credibility refers to a witness’s honesty: are they telling the truth? Reliability refers to the accuracy of the witness’s evidence: are they able to observe, recall and recount relevant events? A witness who is not credible cannot give reliable evidence, but a credible witness may not give a reliable account: Yang v. Duralia, 2020 BCSC 806, at paras. 40–41.
