Credibility and reliability are different concepts. Credibility has to do with a witness’s veracity, whereas reliability has to do with their ability to accurately observe, recall and recount events in issue. A witness whose evidence on an issue is not credible cannot give reliable evidence on that point. However, a witness’s evidence on a point may be credible yet not reliable: see Radacina v. Aquino, 2020 BCSC 1143 at paras. 94–95.
