In Borgstrom v. Borgstrom, 2004 BCSC 605 [Borgstrom] MacKenzie J., as she then was, had before her an 18-year-old traditional marriage with four children cared for by the wife, allowing the husband to pursue his career. The wife’s planned remarriage would have been financially advantageous for her. Having concluded the evidence called for a lump sum, rather than periodic, compensatory award, the judge discussed the implications of remarriage to a fiancé who stated he would generously support the wife:
