2. Defendant makes an emphatic plea for us not to independently review the records. But the thrust of his argument has more to do with the competency of counsel than a cogent reason why we should shun an in camera review. As to the competency of counsel and the sufficiency of the records presented, we will address the issue post. People v. Avila (2006) 38 Cal.4th 491 provides no basis for us to refuse the Attorney General's request to review the phone records.
