We review the district court's denial of the writ of habeas corpus de novo. See Dorsey v. Kelley, 112 F.3d 50, 52 (2d Cir. 1997). However, in conducting our review, we also must defer to state court findings of fact, mixed findings of fact and law, and conclusions of law. See 28 U.S.C. 2254 (d), (e).
