The following excerpt is from People v. Jerez, 208 Cal.App.3d 132, 256 Cal.Rptr. 31 (Cal. App. 1989):
[208 Cal.App.3d 139] "Neither the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States nor the California Constitution (art. I, 7, art. IV, 16) precludes legislative classification with respect to persons who are different. [Citation]" (People v. Jacobs, supra, 157 Cal.App.3d at p. 802, 204 Cal.Rptr. 234.) What is required is that similarly situated persons with respect to the legitimate purpose of the law, receive like treatment. (Ibid.)
