7 The District of Columbia Circuit further emphasized the separation of functions of medical expert and jury in Washington v. United States, 129 U.S.App.D.C. 29, 390 F.2d 444 (1967). The court precluded psychiatrists from testifying "in terms of `product,' or even `result' or `cause.'" The court did not, however, proscribe experts from speaking of "mental disease or defect," although part of the ultimate issue for the jury, because these terms have medical significance. Id. at 456.
