substantial-evidence standard. The ruling on whether the applicable law applies to the facts is a mixed question of law and fact that is subject to independent review." [Citations.]' [Citation.] 'Pursuant to article I, section 28, of the California Constitution, a trial court may exclude evidence under Penal Code section 1538.5 only if exclusion is mandated by the federal Constitution.' [Citation.] The Fourth Amendment to the federal Constitution prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures." (People v. Bryant (2014) 60 Cal.4th 335, 364-365.)
