The following excerpt is from The People v. Jones, No. CR 53009, No. S056364 (Cal. 2011):

because this particular church was, in his view, "constantly controversial," and he did not "particularly want anybody that's controversial on my jury panel." Defendant also contends this explanation constituted impermissible discrimination based on religious affiliation. He did not object on that basis at trial and may not do so for the first time on appeal. (People v. Cleveland, supra, 32 Cal.4th at p. 734.) Moreover, the prosecutor did not excuse her because of her religious views but because he believed she belonged to a controversial organization.
